The waiting list

This covers one thing only: the message you send to ask for a place, and what happens to it between now and the day the service opens. It is short because what we hold is small.

Who holds it

Epic Sky LLC, a Delaware limited liability company, is the controller of this information today. Starling Post PBC, a Delaware public benefit corporation, is in formation; when it exists, the waiting list is transferred to it and it becomes the controller. We are telling you that now rather than after the fact, because it is the kind of thing a person is entitled to know before they write rather than discover afterwards.

What we hold

• Your email address, because it is how we write back.
• The country you tell us you are in, because the whole service is built on people being in different ones.
• The languages you tell us you read, if you tell us.
• Whatever else you chose to put in the message, because you wrote it and we did not edit it out.

We do not ask your age beyond your confirming you are eighteen or over, and we do not ask anything else. There is no form on the page, no account, no password, and no tracker. You wrote us a letter; we have the letter.

Why we are allowed to hold it

You asked us to. Writing in to ask for a place is consent to be written back to, and that is the whole basis. You can take it back at any moment and it costs you one sentence.

How long

Until the cohort opens and you have either taken a place or declined one, and then thirty days. If the cohort never opens, we tell you so and delete the list within thirty days of telling you. If you ask us to remove you before any of that, we do it when we read the message.

Who else sees it

Our mail provider, because a letter has to travel. Nobody else. We do not sell it, we do not share it for advertising, we do not put it in a marketing tool, and we do not use it for anything except telling you when the service opens.

Where it is

Our mail infrastructure is hosted in Ireland, so your message is received and stored in the European Union rather than transferred out of it. That is deliberate.

What you can ask us for

• A copy of what we hold.
• A correction, if we got something wrong.
• Deletion — and you do not have to give a reason.
• A copy in a portable form.

Reply to any message from us, or write to privacy@starling.day. We answer within thirty days, we do not charge, and we will not treat you differently for asking. If you think we have handled something badly you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.

If this changes

The service itself will have a fuller privacy notice, published before anybody is asked to join or to pay. This one covers the waiting list and nothing else. If we change it in a way that matters, we tell the people on the list before it takes effect.
